The New Year 2019 brings a new website for Frank Field Photography. I’ve moved from featuring both my color and monochrome images of the North Coast of California to focus on my monochrome work. As my photography has evolved, I find myself ever-more interested in “black and white” photography. It is time to dedicate my website to my best monochrome work.
My new website is based on the latest release of WordPress, version 5.0. Version 5 introduces the new “Gutenberg” block-based editor, replacing WordPress’s original minimalist text editor. While it’s still early, one can already see that Gutenberg promises to divorce authors from the need to write html commands to format their posts and pages. That’s the upside. The reality is that the initial release of the Gutenberg editor provides less capability for managing the insertion, linking and display appearance of images. I may well find that I have to revert to the old editor for certain pages and posts
I use the Astra theme for my site. I like its compact, clean-layout that allows me to emphasize my images. I’ve been able to use the rich set of configuration options in Astra to customize my site, rather than write cascading style sheet extensions. As a responsive theme, Astra delivers pages that look good on computer monitors, tablets and smart phones.
My galleries are built on Imagely’s NextGen Gallery software with NextGen Plus extensions. NextGen Gallery is one of the most popular gallery plugins for WordPress.
